VELMA MCKENZIE-ORR

Velma McKenzie-Orr is a former two-term chairman of the three counties, Live Oak Regional Public Libraries’ Board of Trustees; director of Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum, Georgia’s official historic civil rights museum; and the W. W. Law Foundation in Savannah, GA. She currently serves as director of The Bookstore At Grace.

 

Velma created the “Action Kids and Teens Show” through Public Access TV to demonstrate the importance of effective reading, writing and speaking skills for children. Through collaboration with the National Basketball Association the Action Kids and Teens journalists covered the NBA’s Stay In School Jam; and NAACP National Convention, Joint Economic Summit of the top six industrialized nations and other news events. She has written articles, commentaries, Op-eds and has appeared on NBC, ABC, CBS and cable affiliated talk and news shows.
